Friday saw ESPN moving forward with their sport city websites. This time they launched ESPNNewYork.com. The only thing I have to say is... Why did it take so long?
For their flag ship websites ESPN used Boston(okay),Chicago(I guess so) and Dallas(WTF???). How exactly did they come to the consensus that these three cities should get entire websites devoted strictly to their city.
Even though I hate the city of Boston(with a passion), I can understand Boston being one of the first. Over the past decade, Boston has accomplished in sports. The Red Sox won two World Series, the Patriots were a dynasty winning three Superbowls and the Celtics won a NBA championship.
But what in the world has Dallas or Chicago done in the past decade that is worthy of them getting their own website. Chicago hasn't won anything since a guy named Jordan left and Dallas hasn't had any meaningful media coverage since Emmitt Smith broke the rushing record.Even Los Angelesmanaged to get their own website, and they don't even have a pro football team!
New York is the fifth city to get their own site and its the mecca of sports. The Yankees won four World Series coming into the decade and recently won another won, the Giants beat Boston in the Superbowl after being major underdogs, Syracuse won a national title, the Nets went to the finals back to back, the Jets just went to the AFC championship game, the Knicks went to the finals and Rutgers is the home of college football.
With its resume sack so high, why would ESPN put Dallas, Chicago and LA ahead of New York?
