Wow! Yesterday was a perfect showcase of exactly why people love sports. Last night, there were two games in the MLB playoffs that exemplified heart, passion and historical greatness.

Heavy rains are frequent, flowers are getting ready to bloom and pollen is covering everything everywhere. This can only mean one thing: spring is in full effect; and, with spring comes the start of the MLB season.

With the first game seven of the World Series in almost ten years looming, it's easy to only focus on who's going to win tonight. Although, we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that both the Texas Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals have overcome incredible odds and should be happy with their season no matter what the outcome.

Now that the MLB season is over and the playoff positions have been set, I can honestly say I'm pleased with the results. My New York Yankees have the best record in the American League and the Boston Red Sox didn't make the cut, it doesn't get any better than that.

Last night, New York Yankee Closer Mariano Rivera became the second closer ever to record 600 saves. The record is 601; and with two weeks left in the MLB regular season, it's safe to say that he will no doubt obtain the record.

For the second straight year the Major League Baseball All-Star Game had a record low in t.v. ratings. I'm not surprised. Regardless of the meaning attached to the ASG in 2003 (World Series field advantage goes to the winning league), there has been little concern for the ASG.

Tonight is the opening night for the baseball season. Usually when baseball season starts, the defending champs are on their home field. The team gets their rings during an opening ceremony that also involves raising a banner in their stadium. For as long as I have been watching the MLB that is how its been done.
